EXP3 / FINAL SUBMISSION

FACEBOOK INC. HQ

THE COCA-COLA COMPANY HQ

IN BOTH HEADQUARTERS THE VIEW IS DIRECTED AWAY FROM THE MEETING POINT. THIS CREATES TWO SEPARATE SPACES IN WHICH EACH VIP IS THE MASTER OF THEIR DOMAIN.

IN BOTH HEADQUARTERS LIGHT REFLECTED ON THE CURVED SHELL FROM THE HIGH LATERAL WINDOWS GIVE A SENSE OF BEING ELEVATED, FURTHER REINFORCING THE CONCEPT OF POWER.

THE ELEVATORS DETACH FROM THE HEADQUARTERS AND TRANSPORT THE VIP INTO THE NOW VISIBLE MEETING SPACE. THE VIP IS NEVER COMPLETELY DIVORCED FROM HIS SENSE OF POWER.

THE ELEVATORS CONNECT TO FORM THE DINNING TABLE, REPRESENTING THE BALANCE OF POWER. THE H-SHAPE IS DERIVED FROM EARLIER PERSPECTIVE DRAWINGS.

EXP2 / FINAL SUBMISSION

The two concepts used in the final design were Monolithic (Thermal Baths, Peter Zumthor) and Marker (The Eiffel Tower, Gustave Eiffel). In my interpretation of the 'ElectroLiquid Aggregation' quote I merged the two literally, (m)on(o)lit(h)i(c)(m)(a)r(k)er, and from the letters formed the new concept Hammock.

Monolithic: I used the darkest texture to represent a dense, strong structure that draws from the monolithic concept but also represents the support from which the hammock hangs.

Marker: Firstly I elongated the monument to further emphasis the concept of a hanging hammock and then applied the medium texture to represent the woven texture of which hammocks are commonly made.

In the video below it can be seen that the hammock concept is not only seen throughout the connection between the monuments but also the landscape, in particular water. To travel from one monument to the other you must travel through the water. The concept of floating on the water links with the concept of floating on a hammock.
